Do I have to run a new gas line for my pool heater?
I have a Jandy pool system,an inground salt water,gunite pool.I want to buy a Jandy 400 K btu LT heater from someone.It is computer operated for a pool and spa.Will I have to run a new gas line since my gas is on the other side of the house?If it is computer run,I'm hoping I won't have to.
If it's a gas heater you'll need either a gas line from your meter or a large propane tank and a heater model made for LP gas. When I had my pool installed 10 years ago they ran a gas line around the house from the has meter to the location of the heater. It caused a lot of sprinkler system damage that had to be repaired. I asked why they didn't just come off the gas lines in the attic and they said the lines weren't large enough to service the heater.
Jessica West's suggestion about a heat pump heater is a good one if you don't have gas service to your home already. However, those are electric and may draw more electricity than your service will provide. That may mean installing a separate breaker panel to service the heater.
My advice is to price the different options, then get several bids on the one you decide upon. Be sure your bids come from reputable companies that are members of the local BBB and have insurance, etc.
